The Application Branding Utility (ABU) is generated by the Master Application Branding Utility (MABU), which is included with the 32-bit Brandable Application SDK for Visual Basic 6.0. The MABU creates the ABU for a brandable software product using a specially designed template.
The ABU is a two-page wizard-style utility which is used to brand information into executables (EXE) developed using Visual Basic 6.0. The information being branded is actually written into the exe file, making it a part of the executable.
Like the MABU, the user interface for the ABU is clean and easy to use:
The first page simply provides information about the brandable software product that it is to be used to brand. This information includes the brandable application's name and version number, the brandable application developer's contact information, and the type of rights that the developer is assigning to the person receiving the brandable application with the ABU. This information is crucial for the branding of the brandable software product, as well as for any viral marketing efforts that the developer may be attempting with his product.
The second page of the ABU provides fields for the end-user to input information. The type of information to be entered is determined by the brandable software developer. Once the information has been entered, it's simply a matter of clicking on the "Brand App" button at the bottom of the page. The ABU does the rest, branding the software product with the information provided by the end-user and packaging all the required files into a neat setup package.
